Engineering & Public Policy Project Course:
Sustaining Pittsburgh's Vital Services
When the Power Goes Out

During the Spring Semester, 2004, 22 students from
Engineering & Public Policy, Social and Decision Sciences,
and the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management
completed a study of important public and private services in
the Pittsburgh region and how they would be affected by
electricity disruptions. We studied a variety of ways to
improve the city's preparedness for power outages. A summary
of our findings is included below:
